"Jack the Giant Slayer" Tops Weekend Box Office

Fantasy adventure film Jack the Giant Slayer -- distributed by Time Warner subsidiary Warner Brothers -- took the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office this past weekend, according to data released by media management firm Rentrak. The film, making its debut in theaters, recorded just more than $28 million in domestic revenue.

Jack also ranked first overall in total worldwide sales, pulling in another $13.7 million overseas to bring its weekend cumulative total to $41.7 million.

A Good Day to Die Hard, the fifth installment of the Die Hard action series, topped the international box office with $18.3 million this past weekend. While the film, distributed by News Corp. subsidiary 20th Century Fox, barely cracked the top 10 domestically (landing at No. 9), the weekend's sales brought its total box office run to over $220 million.

Warner Brothers' The Hobbit continues to perform well despite being released last year; the film pulled in another $9.2 million internationally this weekend to bring its cumulative box office sales to over $1 billion. The film is now the 15th highest-grossing film of all time, according to Box Office Mojo.
