Culp Beats Analyst Estimates on EPS

Culp (NYS: CFI) reported earnings on Feb. 27. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Jan. 27 (Q3), Culp met expectations on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue expanded. Non-GAAP earnings per share increased significantly. GAAP earnings per share grew significantly.
Margins grew across the board.
Culp recorded revenue of $63.7 million. The one analyst polled by S&P Capital IQ predicted a top line of $64.5 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 5.4% higher than the prior-year quarter's $60.5 million.

EPS came in at $0.32. The two earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.29 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.32 for Q3 were 129% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.14 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.23 for Q3 were 64% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.14 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 18.3%, 420 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 7.6%, 260 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 4.4%, 140 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $77.5 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.39.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $282.5 million. The average EPS estimate is $1.30.
