Reliance Steel & Aluminum (NYS: RS) reported earnings on Feb. 21. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), Reliance Steel & Aluminum missed estimates on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue dropped. GAAP earnings per share expanded significantly.

EPS came in at $1.06. The 12 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.98 per share. GAAP EPS of $1.06 for Q4 were 18% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.90 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 27.8%, 440 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 7.2%, 170 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 4.3%, 100 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.14 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $1.19.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $9.07 billion. The average EPS estimate is $5.21.
