Advance Auto Parts Beats Analyst Estimates on EPS

Advance Auto Parts (NYS: AAP) reported earnings on Feb. 7. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 29 (Q4), Advance Auto Parts met expectations on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue was unchanged and GAAP earnings per share contracted slightly.
Gross margins expanded, operating margins were steady, net margins shrank.

EPS came in at $0.88. The 19 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.75 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.88 for Q4 were 2.2% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.90 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 49.9%, 90 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 8.5%, about the same as the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 4.9%, 10 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.02 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $1.82.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $6.50 billion. The average EPS estimate is $5.60.
