Oshkosh Beats Up on Analysts Yet Again

Oshkosh (NYS: OSK) reported earnings on Jan. 25. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q1), Oshkosh beat expectations on revenues and crushed expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue dropped and GAAP earnings per share expanded significantly.
Margins increased across the board.
Oshkosh tallied revenue of $1.76 billion. The nine analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ expected a top line of $1.70 billion on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 6.3% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.88 billion.

EPS came in at $0.60. The 13 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.33 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.51 for Q1 were 21% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.42 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 14.0%, 220 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 4.6%, 60 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 2.6%, 50 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.03 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.75.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $7.75 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.62.
The stock has a four-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 785 members out of 850 rating the stock outperform, and 65 members rating it underperform.
