The Duty of an Entrepreneur

Ping Fu, author of Bend, Not Break, founder and CEO of Geomagic, and incoming Chief Strategy Officer at 3D Systems , talks about why entrepreneurs work for everyone but themselves.

3D Systems is at the leading edge of a disruptive technological revolution, with the broadest portfolio of 3-D printers in the industry. However, despite years of earnings growth, 3D Systems' share price has risen even faster, and today the company sports a dizzying valuation. To help investors decide whether the future of additive manufacturing is bright enough to justify the lofty price tag on the company's shares, The Motley Fool has compiled a premium research report on whether 3D Systems is a buy right now. In our report, we take a close look at 3D Systems' opportunities, risks, and critical factors for growth. Brendan Byrnes: So what did you learn from being an entrepreneur? One of the quotes in the book is, "An entrepreneur works for everyone but himself or herself." What do you mean by that?

Ping Fu: I heard a lot of people saying they wanted to start a business because they don't want to work for anyone. My experience taught me that that's so far from the truth because when you're an entrepreneur you have responsibility to everyone who works in that company, as well as all the stakeholders who aren't even in the company. So the last thing you do is work for yourself because your responsibility goes so far beyond yourself, your family and people that you know.
