SanDisk Beats Up on Analysts Yet Again

SanDisk (NAS: SNDK) reported earnings on Jan. 23. Here are the numbers you need to know.
The 10-second takeaway
For the quarter ended Dec. 30 (Q4), SanDisk met expectations on revenues and crushed expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue contracted slightly and GAAP earnings per share dropped significantly.
Margins shrank across the board.
SanDisk logged revenue of $1.54 billion. The 24 analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ wanted to see sales of $1.53 billion on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 2.2% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.58 billion.

EPS came in at $1.05. The 25 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.76 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.87 for Q4 were 24% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.14 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 39.8%, 300 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 21.8%, 460 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 13.9%, 390 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.37 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.68.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $6.01 billion. The average EPS estimate is $3.51.
The stock has a four-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 1,893 members out of 2,043 rating the stock outperform, and 150 members rating it underperform. Among 428 CAPS All-Star picks (recommendations by the highest-ranked CAPS members), 405 give SanDisk a green thumbs-up, and 23 give it a red thumbs-down.
Of Wall Street recommendations tracked by S&P Capital IQ, the average opinion on SanDisk is outperform, with an average price target of $50.73.
