I am at 70/daytime(6am) and 65/night(7pm) in the winter (programed thermostat), don't have air just a cool basement bedroom in the summer. I change the furnace filter every month, and service the burner yearly.

We keep our thermostat at 42, day and night. I spend the savings on doughnuts. The more doughnuts I eat from the money I save makes me fatter. Fat people naturally retain heat. So you figure the math. Of course, I'll die quicker, but why do I care. Fatter, warmer, and full of doughnuts!

I INSTALLED A WOOD FURNACE IN MY HOME 4 YEARS AGO AND IT SAVED ME OVER 300 A MONTH ON MY GAS BILL. ITS AMASSING HOW MUCH FREE WOOD YOU CAN GET IF YOU LOOK FOR IT. KEEPS MY 2000 SF HOME @ 76 DEGREES WITH LITTLE EFFORT. ALSO INSTALLED WATER HEATER TO FURNACE THAT KEEPS WATER @170 DEGREES. GET BACK TO BASICS AND SAY GOODBY TO POWER COMPANY

Good grief man, where do you live that the lousy gas or power company charges so f'n much to keep your house warm?? I don't care what anyone says or what kind of argument they can raise, "WE AS AMERICANS SHOULD NEVER, ABSOLUTELY NEVER HAVE TO PAY SUCH REDICULOUS, OUTRAGEOUS BILLS FOR SOME OF THE MOST ESSENTIAL THINGS IN OUR LIVES & A CROOKED, GREEDY & CORRUPT govt known as uncle f'n sham ARE THE ONES WHO ALLOW SUCH THINGS TO EXIST, ALL WHILE SITTING BACK IN SOME FORM OF LUXURY THAT MOST OF US WILL NEVER HAVE THE CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE, ALL IN THE NAME OF GREED & ALLOWING THE RICH & POWERFUL TO REMAIN OR BECOME MORE SO, AS THE COMMON FOLKS STRUGGLE JUST TO MAKE IT WEEK AFTER WEEK!!!!!!!" Sorry folks, the way our power companies gouge us, just as the BIG oil companies do, I can't help but to blow a fuse!!!! LOL

I'd rather pay a higher fee and be comfortable @ 78 rather than be miserable @ 60 just to save a few dollars

That's great for you but there are a great many who simply can not afford to let the heater or the a/c run if they are going to eat , travel to work every day or other of the many things that are a simple part of everyday life!! :o(

Listen to what Albert " I Live Green " Gore says, bundle up with more blankets so I can turn the heat up in all my homes.

Burn wood, renewable and you are warm not freezing. I dry my wood 2 years. Heat a 2400 sf house AND heat hot water for about $1000.00 a year and that is at 70 degrees not oil furnace cold.

Yes. Wood stoves, especially newer ones, burn wood efficiently and reburn the gasses so that there is only a tiny bit of "pollution." I added a wood stove to my oil system when living in Vermont and saved about $1500 per year. Now in Tucson I put in a woodstove and have saved over $150/month in winter gas cost. The heat is "dry" and the feeling of warmth is cozy and comforting. I keep my house at 70 degrees and feel that this kind of heating keeps us all more healthy,

Natural gas is cheaper, cleaner, and lots easier if you can get it. I heat the space, the water, and cook for $800-$900 in central Indiana.

The air is very dry in Las Vegas so without the humidity it doesn't feel as cold as other places. We keep the natural gas furnace set at 63 when we go to bed, turn it to 65 when we are home, and 60 when we are out. The winter gas bill hasn't been over $40!!!
