Wendy's Beats Analyst Estimates on EPS

Wendy's (NAS: WEN) reported earnings on Jan. 16. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 30 (Q4), Wendy's met expectations on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue expanded slightly and GAAP earnings per share increased significantly.
Margins expanded across the board.
Wendy's booked revenue of $629.9 million. The 15 analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ predicted revenue of $639.4 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 2.4% higher than the prior-year quarter's $615.0 million.

EPS came in at $0.08. The 17 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.04 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.06 for Q4 were 500% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.01 per share. (The prior-year quarter included $0.08 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.)

For the quarter, gross margin was 26.3%, 20 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 9.1%, 110 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 3.6%, 300 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $622.0 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.02.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $2.63 billion. The average EPS estimate is $0.17.
