Savings Experiment: Christmas Shopping

How many stores are you likely to shop this holiday?

Did you find our video on Christmas gifts helpful?

Christmas is right around the corner, but some of you may still be working on your shopping list. Not to worry -- there's still plenty of time to get what you need and score great deals on your gifts.

Our experts made a list of popular presents, including: a Furby, Imaginext Castle, Taylor Swift's 'RED,' the Leap Pad 2 Explorer Tablet, a Roku 2 Streaming Player, Angry Birds Boardgame, Halo 4, a Canon Powershot SX260 and 'The Avengers' on DVD. They went to three big box retailers -- Target, Walmart and Kmart -- to compare prices.

So, who had the lowest prices? All of them. These popular gifts have fixed prices, so you'll be paying roughly the same amount no matter where you shop. The best way to save money is to shop for all of your items at one place, which will cut down on gas and make the most of your time.

If you're looking for a new HDTV, jewelry or electronics, consider shopping for them after the holidays. The lowest prices for HDTVs are available in January and February, while jewelry and watches are cheapest in the spring and summer. For the best deals on new electronics, wait until the new year to see what's worth buying.

Christmas Shopping giftsWith these tips, last-minute shopping will be a breeze. Just remember where and when to shop, and you'll be able to keep your Christmas spirit up and your gift costs down.

My wife really appreciated that I didn't wait for 4 to 8 weeks to give her Christmas present to her !!

The experts are inept.
The 'presents' were chosen by marketing hacks, put forth by well-paid flacks and in no way reflective of what kids actually want, ask for or care about. Nor their parents, as it happens.

We have four grandkids, 3 - 9, two boys, two girls. Neither they nor their parents asked for or would have anything to do with any of those items.

When with this venue learn the difference between being shills for special interests and giving actual useful information?

If you want to really save the big bucks this Christmas, here are some helpful hints-QUIT GIVING YOUR KIDS EVERYTHING THEY WANT, QUIT TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THE JONES' FAMILY, TRY LIVING WITHIN YOUR MEANS, PAY CASH, LEAVE THE CREDIT CARDS AT HOME, AND BRING BACK THE TRUE SPIRIT OF THE HOLIDAYS!

If parent would give the gift of parenting instead of trying to be a friend, we'd have a better society.

Remember Wallmart spends all its profits on laws to keep you poor and them rich! They don't give health care. They are anti gay anti women anti non whites and anti all religions but christianity. They will run your local mom and pop stores out of business use all your cities resources and give as little back as they can get away with. Your choice...tell them with your money (spent elsewhere) you don't like that Un American way of doing business

I wonder if the producers of this would suggest that you give an I O U for a wedding gift, knowing you can get it a little cheaper in 2 or 3 months later ?

I have an after-thought .....MOVE CHRISTMAS TO THE END OF FEBRUARY!! (I'm sure your going to get great deals on a HDTV within 30 days of the superbowl. The returnable 30 days.)

If you can't afford to buy the product WHEN you want to buy it, ..... I bet you can finish this sentence.

I think the producers of the "wait untill Janurary or February to buy an impressive CHRISTMAS GIFT are perfect buffoons and totally miss the point. Isn't there value to having a gift ON TIME FOR A MOJOR EVENT LIKE CHRISTMAS ? Isn't there value to having the use of a product such as a HDTV (or a watch God forbid) for the marginal time between Christmas and when ever these pauper minded people want you to wait to buy it? PALEEEEEEEEEEEEESE............... THATS my opinion.
