Tesoro Increases Sales but Misses Revenue Estimate

Tesoro (NYS: TSO) reported earnings on Oct. 31. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS details
EPS came in at $2.05. The 18 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $2.27 per share. GAAP EPS of $1.92 for Q3 were 20% lower than the prior-year quarter's $2.39 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 8.6%, 70 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 5.8%, 170 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 3.1%, 120 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $7.39 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $1.14.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $30.82 billion. The average EPS estimate is $6.51.
