Savings Experiment: Internet Providers

What internet service provider do you think provides the best value?

Did you find our video on internet service providers helpful?

Internet service feels like a must-have for every home these days, but service costs can add up. Here's how you can get the most megabytes for your buck.

Verizon Fios offers the best connection speed out of all major providers, but it costs twice as much. AT&T, however, offers solid connection speeds and is the cheapest provider. But there are ways to lower your bill even more.

First, don't take offers at face value. Many companies lower rates initially to get you hooked, then raise them after the promotional period ends.

Next, don't hesitate to call your provider and ask them if they can improve your monthly bill. Companies don't want to lose good customers. Also, if you have service interruptions, be sure to complain. It helps to keep a log of service outages, too, so you can cite each one to your customer representative. You shouldn't have to pay for what you're not getting.

I have used Verizon in the past and love the TWC. I don't subscribe to the tv or phone but their internet is the fatest and most reliable. I watch streaming everything and listen to internet radio, I have my phone and tablet and pc on the home network along with my wife and kids. And of course a good router is also important in a home network. I dont skimp on a router and internet service, it brings me peace of mind but I do skimp on a lot of other stuff.

AT&T or Brighthouse is ALL you can get in Orlando! That doesn't leave me with a real choice. That is a monoply as far as I am concerned. The both charge way too much and give you way too little and have way too many problems with their services... Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

AT&T promised me a certain price and then refused to honor that price. What is really sad about that is the mobile side of AT&T even told the internet side that they promised me the price, that they have it written in their notes, and that the internet side needs to honor the price they promised me and yet, they still refused to honor it. What theives AT&T are. I am cancelling both of my mobile services with AT&T at the end of this month when my contract is up and going with Boost Mobile (no contracts, half the cost, 4 times the services I currently have). Good bye and good riddance AT&T. I will also cancel my internet service and do without it for awhile so I don't have to pay those theives. I will be saving a lot of money every month by leaving AT&T.

How about giving seniors, age 65, and older a 20% discount?

It is not fair comparing any of them seeing as they are not available in the same places. You use what is available and do with it until something better comes along.

Anything to do with AOL or Huffington Post is awful and should be avoided.

I have lived in Central Ohio for over 20 years and for all that time there has been only one provider, Time Warner. They most certainly have a monoply on cable TV and internet services. If there was an alternative service, T/W would get better and kmost likely there would be over 20,000 to 50,000 customers who would leave T/W because they hated being held captive for so long.

How do they maintain their relationship with governmental power to keep out competetors?
