U.S. Consumer Confidence Jumps to 7-Month High

US consumer confidence jumps to 7-month highBY ANNE D'INNOCENZIO

NEW YORK -- A private group says U.S. consumer confidence jumped this month to the highest level since February, bolstered by a brighter hiring outlook.

The Conference Board says its Consumer Confidence Index rose to 70.3. That's up from 61.3 in August, which was revised higher. And it's the highest reading since February, when the economy added 259,000 jobs.

The indicator is watched closely because consumer spending drives nearly 70 percent of economic activity. The reading is still below 90, a level that indicates a healthy economy. Since the beginning of the year, the index has fluctuated sharply.

The survey was conducted from Sept. 1 through Sept. 13. It showed consumers were more optimistic about the current availability of jobs and their outlook over the next six months.

Unless we do something about the "fiscal cliff" there will be no meaningful employment in the near term. I'm just hoping employment doesn't get any worse. Too bad our next President whether we get a "liar" or a "two-face" will just make things worse. Not to mention an ignorant federal reserve, Wall Street bailouts and wasted money fighting in the Middle East. Actually my consumer confidence in the near term is pretty dismal. Price of food and energy is too damn high. If a war with Iran materializes, there will be no hope for any recovery.

Yes, and the FBI will miraculously capture and kill the killer of our Ambsasador just before the election. Also, look for another executive order that panders to some group soon.

What I hear and see is that americans are feeling more confidant and secure due to high probability of a ROMNEY WIN and GOP take over of the senate. We have over 30 jobs bills already passed by the house and the senate wont even vote on them. A GOP senate will get them passed and people back to work.

Gee, imagine where we would be if the republicans had passed just ONE of the jobs bills that the WH and Democrats were working on...........and what jobs bills exactly did the republicans put forth????? Are you listening MITT. The one reason I am confident that MITT will lose big time in Nov. is because he is already the BAIN of existence for too many ex-workers in the US of A.

Hope that they have plenty. There seems to be no end of the line of those that can't get enough of it.

History indicates that consumer confidence increases as Christmas approaches EVERY year. This year will be no different.

We will soon hear of the great leaps in employment "obama is responsible for" as normal seasonal hiring begins. That, of course, will be followed in Jan 2013 by the normal drop in jobs as seasonal employees are laid off, which will be pronounced by the media as "normal" if obama wins again, but as a direct result of GOP policies if Romney wins.

FDR took a bad situation an inserted more government and made it worse.
Clinton took a good situation and made it better by expanding and adding to Reagan's policies.
bho has chosen to follow the FDR example, and the lyin'g azz media which grovels at his footsteps is doing its best to convince gullible Americans that "the one" can walk on water.

I'm more concerned with what government is capable of doing TO me than I am of what government can do FOR me.

The GOP is loathsome and getting worse, and it's getting harder every election for them to convince 51% that somebody else is uglier than they are.
