iPhone 5 Countdown: Broadcom Will Be a Winner

Sept 12.

That's the date the tech world will be watching, as Apple (NAS: AAPL) unveils its iPhone 5 to the world. That puts us at T-minus six days to the event, so investors need to make sure they're fully prepared for the opportunities that lie within.

This year's model will put up massive unit sales figures. Some estimates range as high as 250 million units throughout the product's life cycle, which would more than double lifetime unit sales to date. For numerous component suppliers, that spells profits, as they ride on Apple's coattails to riches. Leading up to the event, I'm going to outline a handful of companies that I think will be winners of the iPhone 5.

WiFi, Bluetooth, and FM combo chip: Broadcom
Broadcom
(NAS: BRCM) is also another mainstay iPhone component supplier, sourcing the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and integrated FM radio combo chip. The company has held down this spot virtually uncontested since 2009, after beating out Marvell (NAS: MRVL) , and is also set to be included in the iPhone 5.

The new iPad carried a Broadcom chip, and the iPhone 5 is expected to carry an even newer one. Including this new dual-band chip would add additional efficiencies and dramatic improvements in power efficiency.

Broadcom will definitely be one of the more notable iPhone 5 winners.
