SINA Beats on Both Top and Bottom Lines

SINA (NAS: SINA) reported earnings on May 16. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), SINA beat expectations on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue grew significantly. Non-GAAP earnings per share grew. GAAP loss per share dropped.
Margins increased across the board.
SINA chalked up revenue of $126.0 million. The 14 analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ expected sales of $120.1 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 19% higher than the prior-year quarter's $106.2 million.

EPS came in at $0.02. The 11 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted -$0.03 per share. Non-GAAP EPS were $0.02 for Q1 compared to -$0.21 per share for the prior-year quarter. GAAP EPS were -$0.20 for Q1 against -$0.21 per share for the prior-year quarter.

For the quarter, gross margin was 51.3%, 510 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was -7.8%, 920 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was -10.5%, 240 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $145.5 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.13.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $621.9 million. The average EPS estimate is $0.76.
