Darling International Meets on Revenues, Misses on EPS

Darling International (NYS: DAR) reported earnings on Aug. 9. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended June 30 (Q2), Darling International met expectations on revenues and missed estimates on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue contracted and GAAP earnings per share dropped significantly.
Margins dropped across the board.

EPS came in at $0.31. The six earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.34 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.31 for Q2 were 30% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.44 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 28.1%, 280 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 14.6%, 500 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 8.3%, 280 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $448.3 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.36.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $1.72 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.28.
The stock has a five-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 1,092 members out of 1,121 rating the stock outperform, and 29 members rating it underperform.
