Team USA wearing Chinese made clothing
Team USA sported Ralph Lauren's much maligned, Chinese-made Olympic uniforms during the Opening Ceremony's Parade of Nations, the runway of athletes that marks the patriotism-inducing finish to the rousing spectacle.

It was hard to miss the firestorm of indignation that erupted over the foreign-made uniforms: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called for the burning of the preppie-nautical duds. The brouhaha even prompted Congress to draft a bill requiring that Team USA's Olympic uniforms be made in America in the future.

For his part, Lauren has promised the uniforms he's delivering for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, will be U.S.-made.

But the bipartisan political clamor over the Chinese uniforms smacks of hypocritical grandstanding: The very lawmakers who are so outraged serve in a government that has promoted a globalized economy, which has resulted in the offshoring of U.S. jobs to foreign countries.

And a snapshot of where many of the big consumer products sold in the U.S. are actually made underlines the point that "Made in China" tags have become as American as apple pie.

But of course, China isn't the only importer of goods sold in the U.S. We took an unscientific survey of some of America's more popular products to see where they're actually made.

There is a huge demand for products in America. Huge demand causes companies to hire people and creates a manfacturing basis that raises the quality of life for everyone. The problem is the huge demand for goods is being met in China. Do we by our buying habits and the loss of manfacturing in the US contribute to the eight million workers who have lost their jobs? Enjoy those foreign cars and big screen TVs. The people in China appreciate all the jobs you have created for them.

I really try to buy made in USA but there are so few products - btw- Anchor Hocking is made in USA versus Pyrex - and why is it that you can't find made in USA ? These countries that we buy from - they aren't buying from us - it's us supporting them - and they're laughing at us - those suckers in America - Well it's time we take our markets back - cut off any tax incentives to companies who outsource- make it more profitable to manufacture in the USA. That's the only way - charge tarriffs on imports - etc. And please bring back American Tech Support -

And just why are so many of our products being made in other countries? Because of our politicians. We all said when they passed NAFTA that most of our jobs would disappear and they have. We are becoming a third world company. It is so sad. Not only that, when these jobs were moving to the other countries, the U. S. companies wanted our hard working people to go to the other countries to train the workers there so they could take our jobs! Oh Yes......And just which President was it that signed the NAFTA agreement? Look it up!

Republicans led on NAFTA. They promoted it. They pushed for it. And while it took some bipartsanship to get it passed. Just becasue Clinton was President is not a reason to blame like you all do. It was a Republican program. Look it up!!!!

I was astonished to notice that my son's Air Force beret was made in China. If we ever have to fight them, I hope it's over before winter.

Ever notice how many products that are made in china use plastic? The thing about items made in the 1970s, they were made to repair, not throw away. It is a shame that many critical parts, in autos, lawnmowers, bicycles, and other products are made with plastic parts. It used to be you got schmatics, or blow aparts with you products, not today, it is called built in obsolescense. I remember toys made in the 1950's, which were made of steel and materials that make them last. (TONKA Trucks for example. Granda children loved them. (But today they are just gimmicks. audo sounds and lights....and plastic, they break in short time.
