Savings Experiment: Big Box Kitchen Challenge

The next time you need to replace dinnerware, where will you shop?

Did you find our video on kitchen needs helpful?

Every kitchen needs dinnerware, cookware and appliances, but stocking up on all of these items can cost you a bundle. Here's how, and where, you can get all of the basics for the best bargain.

When it comes to dinnerware, the best way to save is to buy boxed sets. Flatware and glasses come in pre-packaged boxes, too. If you're shopping for cookware, avoid cheap nonstick pans -- they need to be replaced twice as often as their stainless steel versions.

A few places that come to mind when shopping for wallet-friendly kitchen items are Target, Walmart and Kmart. We compared all three to find out which retailer offers the most savings.

Our experts were impressed by Target's cost-effective appliances, but the chain fell short in the dinnerware and cookware departments. Walmart offered the cheapest dinnerware of the three, but its higher prices on cookware and appliances canceled out those savings.

DinnerwareThat leaves Kmart, which we found to offer a wide variety of quality kitchen essentials for a low price. In the end, the chain will save you about 10 percent over Target.

So, the next time you're in the market for new kitchen goods, keep these tips in mind for a deal that's good enough to eat.

Bed Bath and Beyond is a little expensive but if you get a coupon you are ok. Quality is very good.
Home Goods and Marshall's are also good places to check for cookware and for glassware...
Dinnerware i buy by the box and go to the outlets stores.. Maybe not a deal but I can buy everything I want in one box and then usually get accessory pieces also... Happy shopping!!

COSTCO, BY FAR IS THE BEST ALL THE WAY AROUND. I HAVE SHOPPED AND WENT HALF WITH MY ORDERS WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE SAVING NOT ONLY MONEY BUT THE TRIP TO THE MARKET TO RELOAD THE PANTRY. EVERYTHING IS CHEAPER IN BULK. TIOLET PAPER, PAPER TOWELS AND ESPECIALLY THE GROCERIES. DON\'T WASTE TIME CHECK OUT COSTCO;S COUPONS ON TOP OF BULK SAVINGS. YOU WILL REALIZE YOUR PANTRY WILL BE STOCKED AND YOU PHYSICAL ENERGY IS ALSO SAVED. ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE LUPUS, LIKE MYSELF. CHEAP, ON EVERYTHING ESPECIALLY YOUR PRECRIPTIONS. TRY IT YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED ALL THE WAY, CONCERNING EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED. JUST ALONE ON PRESCRIPTIONS I SAVED OVER 150% OF MARKUP IN COMPARISON WITH WALGREENS, CVC, AND OTHER PLACES THAT YOU NORMALLY FILL PRESCRIPTIONS AT. I KNOW YOU MAY HAVE THEM CALL YOU EVEN SAY, WE NEED TWO CHECK OUT WITH YOUR DOCTOR, IF WE CAN GET MORE PILLS FOR LESS MONEY. ANOTHER WAY TO SAVE GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO, GROCERIES ARE A MUST, BAKERY, AND GROCERIES HANDS DOWN (THE BEST FROM THE REST). DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, TIME AND ENERGY AND SHOP COSTCO. YOU WILL BE SURPRISED YOU MAY NOT HAVE TO SHOP FOR SEVERAL MONTHS BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT RUN OUT AS YOU DID BEFORE YOU WENT TO COSTCO.
WAKE SMELL THE FRESH BEANS AT COSTCO AND THE FANTASTIC BAKERY. YOU WILL NEVER SHOP AT VONS, RALPHS AND STATER BROS. THEY ALL ARE STARTING TO HAVE BULK ITEMS TO GET YOU BACK TO SHOPING AT THEIR GROCERY STORES. WHY RUN AROUND AND GO WITH COUPONS FROM STORE TO STORE. IF YOU HAVE A FREEZER YOU ARE BLESSED IN MORE WAYS THEN ONE. TRY IT YOU WILL NEVER BE DISAPOINTED AGAIN. OH BEFORE I FORGET. YES YOUR BILL MAY BE $200 OR $300 PER VISIT. BUT AT THE END OF THE MONTH YOU WILL NEED FOR ANYTHING FOR PURCHASEING MERCHANDISE AT COSTCO.
I LOVE THAT PLACE.

That leaves Kmart, which we found to offer a wide variety of quality kitchen essentials
Incorrect statement, they all sell mostly crap from china, makes no difference the brand name any more. They have all turned traitor.

Home Goods (which is the housewares "sister" store to TJ Maxx & Marshal) is the first place I look for quality and brand name house items; area room rugs, art, kitchen wares, bedding, decorative pillows, bath decor etc. Many items have the original price on them and they are often more than 50 to70% off original price, all the time, not just clearance items.
