Oh, one more thing. And clearly the most obvious and irrefutable argument of all.

If women REALLY only made 77 cents on the dollar compared to what men make, why would you EVER hire a man? Why not hire only women? Seriously. If I was the owner of a company, I would fire every man who works for me, replace them with women and chop a full 23% off my payroll costs. My profit margins would go through the roof! I'm now a decade closer to retirement. The value of my company stock just got a huge spike. Isn't that what any sensible business owner would do? Do business owners, of BOTH genders, hate women SO much that they would sacrifice profit all in the name of sex discrimination? Anyone who honestly thinks that business owners value keeping women down over their own personal fortune really needs to have their reality meter checked.

Ah yes. The tired old liberal LIE that "women make 77 cents on the dollar for what men make." Quoting this nonsense is very irresponsible "journalism." What goes unreported is the careful massaging of the facts in support of those "studies." Several factors influence the so-called wage gap: seniority, hours worked, type of job and prime among them, choices women make. There are several facts that these "studies" conveniently fail to leave out. Not to mention many obvious questions that are left unanswered. Let's examine them.

1. The feminists and liberal media like to point out that "John and Jane hold the same position at the same company while John makes 100K while Jane makes 77k." They very conveniently leave out that John has been with the company ten years longer than Jane so OF COURSE he makes more. It's called seniority.

2. These "studies" also leave out the most important factor of all: Men are more likely to work more hours then women do. Women leave early to pick up the kids from school. Women are more likely to request flex time or work from home. Men who are overwhelmingly the bread winner of the household have families to support and therefore typically work longer hours. Also, Jane might have taken three months off last year for maternity leave while John didn't. So again, OF COURSE John makes more. He works more hours.

3. Men do unpleasant, but necessary, work that few women will do such as roofing, coal mining, picking up garbage or guarding a prison. Men work longer hours at more dangerous and disagreeable jobs. Men are more willing to work the graveyard shift, which obviously pays more than the 9 to 5 shift. Seems to make sense that men would be paid more for taking these risks and for working these undesirable hours.

4. If such widespread pay discrimination exists, where are all of the lawsuits? Businesses would risk untold millions of dollars in punitive damages and attorneys fees, not to mention the bad publicity, all in the name of sex discrimination. There is certainly no shortage of lawyers who would love to acquire that cash cow. If IBM and GM and every corporation in America were truly paying women 77% what they pay men for the same work, why isn't there this huge flood of class action lawsuits?

5. There is no way that ONE company, much less every business from coast to coast, would be able to keep this a secret for very long. There are women and sympathetic men who work in the accounting departments of these companies and monitor what everyone is being paid. Certainly they would notice such widespread disparity in gender pay. Why haven't they taken their obvious findings to the Justice Department? Why haven't they blown the whistle to Oprah or CNN or any one of the multitude of media outlets that would just LOVE to break the "discrimination against women" story?

The powers of our capitalist society actively discriminate against women, the disabled, and minorities, and they are legally entitled to, per the US Supreme Court ruling in the Wal-Mart Stores vs. Dukes case.

You'll find the same or worse for people born with a mental disability or more melanin content in their skin.

This has gotten to be one of the most ridiculous articles I have read in a while. The author should be ashamed to have their name associated with this garbage. I would hardly call living loner a "penalty of being a woman", if you don't want to take off work to have a family then don't have one. Yes, it is sad that women normally pay more for health insurance and across the grid earn less than men but we all seem to be surviving fine!

If you don't want the benefit ("penalty") of living longer, do yourself a financial favor, and don't.

If you don't want the expense of taking time off to raise your brats, do yourself a financial favor, and don't have them.

If you don't want to pay the cost for long-term care insurance, do yourself a favor, and don't buy it.

And while you're at it, don't inherit all the wealth that your poor husband earned while working himself into an early grave.

And don't collect the Social Security and Medicare that you receive for all those extra years that all the men paid for.

And don't take any of that help and money that your children contribute to you.

And whatever you do, don't accept any Welfare, or AFDC, or any other public money you get from the rest of us.

Or become a Hindu, and throw yourself on hubby's funeral pyre.

The "author" must have taken "womens' studies" classes at some lib college (probably receiving public monies) .... poor "victim"! LOL!

They forgot to mention Food Stamps, Welfare, Child Support, Grand Parents Raising your Kids for Free, Free Drinks , Free gifts, Free Food, Free Bus Rides, (3) Divorces while taking half of thier (3) Ex Husbands Retirement Funds, and thier Social Security Retirement if Married over (10) Years, also Medicare, Social Security, and Inhertance of the Family Real Estate, Etc:
They get free Counciling, Free Abuse Shelters, Free Housing from friends and Family,, and I''ll give them a Free Haircut Also,, that works out to about $ 1,1000,000.00 Million Dollars of Free Stuff for Women, LOLOL
