FuelCell Energy Beats on the Top Line

FuelCell Energy (NAS: FCEL) filed its 10-K on Jan. 15. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Oct. 31 (Q4), FuelCell Energy beat expectations on revenues and met expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue increased slightly and GAAP loss per share expanded.
Gross margins increased, operating margins shrank, net margins contracted.
FuelCell Energy booked revenue of $35.4 million. The five analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ expected a top line of $30.7 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 2.0% higher than the prior-year quarter's $34.7 million.

EPS came in at -$0.05. The five earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged -$0.05 per share. GAAP EPS were -$0.07 for Q4 compared to -$0.06 per share for the prior-year quarter.

For the quarter, gross margin was 2.5%, 120 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was -23.8%, 110 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was -32.0%, 1,170 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $34.1 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is -$0.04.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $153.0 million. The average EPS estimate is -$0.13.
The stock has a two-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 577 members out of 700 rating the stock outperform, and 123 members rating it underperform.
