When you have a cold or are suffering from allergies, tissues are a must-have, but the cost can rack up when you're buying them all the time. Have you ever considered using toilet paper instead? Here are a few good reasons why you should.

We've all grabbed a few squares from the bathroom roll in a pinch, but using toilet paper over tissues is actually a more cost-effective choice in the long run. On average, a box of tissues has 65 sheets and breaks down to about 2 cents per sheet. However, a roll of toilet paper has nearly four times as many sheets as a box of tissues and costs half as much.

Of course, you're not going to toss a roll of toilet paper to your guests when they have the sniffles. With a pair of scissors, an empty tissue box and a little bit of tape, you can refill your dispenser to look just like a store-bought version.
Toilet paper
First, take a roll of toilet paper and cut down the length of the cardboard center with your scissors. Remove the tube. Take an empty square tissue box and cut three sides along the bottom. Pull the inner sheet through the top and tape the bottom shut. You'll have a great looking tissue box in minutes, and can count your savings with each and every pull. And that's nothing to sneeze at!

Those of us with chronic sinus/allergy issues know that you can't blow your nose with a single sheet of toilet paper -- especially if sneezing is involved! My unscientific tests show that I need 6 or 8 sheets of tp to do the work of one good-quality tissue. The situation is made worse by the fact that only Charmin (which is most expensive) is soft enough to use on my nose multiple times daily. No-brainer -- tissues are cheaper and more comfortable; leave the toilet paper in the bathroom.

I grew up in a household that used toilet paper and I had bad allergies. You couldn't pay me to go back to toilet paper.

I never purchase tissues - and with this runny nose I've had (now on round 2 of it due to a 3 day stay in the hospital where I got it again -- so now on the 10th roll of Target toilet paper -- I just keep a roll in the living room for while watching tv and one on the other side of the bed -- grab the roll, unroll it and blow - and keep some in my jacket pocket -- just in case -- Target's aloe vera diaper wipes are great too for a quick 'clean up' -and smell great!! Good for taking off makeup and much cheaper than the 'official' make up remover sheets

Well ,this reminds me of something I did in first grade in Mrs Ryan's class,
Now Mrs Ryan always seemed to have a headache{Hangover} , she looked like a redheaded Sylvia Sydney in late years . Anyway ,during cold season she was always yelling at me not to wipe my nose on my sleeve .
Once during a bad head cold ,I sneezed ,a real dangling glob of snot, like the white of egg ,hanging down to my chin, Checking Mrs Ryan ,her eyes quickly darted to me and she gave me the glare of death ,what could I do as this gelattenous slime quivered from my face ?thinking quick but not to brightly , I stuck out my tounge and sucked the offending spew into my mouth and looked back for approval for not using my sleeve.
Instead Mrs Ryan was bent down ,hand covering her face gagging away with dry heaves.

And are they recommending you save it for reuse?
I always worried when shopping in these so called enlightened places like Whole Foods and have seen recycled toilet paper for sale ?

I buy issues when we have a bad cold, but we use TP otherwise.

"When it comes to the cure for the common cold..." NO ONE reaches for or expects tissues OR toilet paper to cure their cold. A really stupid opening sentence. Other than that, this is the umpteenth time the Fluffpost had run this inane, banal "Savings Experiment" video.

Toilet paper is not strong enough to contain whatever one needs to blow out of one's nose. The result would be messy, or one would need so much of it that there would be no savings at all.

Talk about saving money.... I use a sheet of #60 medium grit sandpaper. Use it, then wash it off in the kitchen sink with the sprayer. I get about 300 wipes before it starts to smooth out. Of course, you have a sheet for each member of the family, but still very economical.
