American ApparelAs surprising as it may seem to many of us when large corporations with familiar brands vanish suddenly from the scene, it happens. Major companies like Saab, Borders, and Countrywide -- just to same a recent few -- are now history.

It can come about in several ways: A company can go bankrupt and see its assets sold off. A name may get discarded when a company is acquired. Or a company may cease to exist due to a merger or liquidation.

But who's next? What well-known companies will disappear in 2012?

24/7 Wall St. compiled its list of companies most likely to vanish by focusing on those that are serious mergers and acquisitions targets, those that are weak players in industries with too many competitors for any to become highly profitable, corporations that Wall Street believes are worth more in parts than intact, and generally, those in good old-fashioned deep fiscal trouble.

Theses are the 9 companies that we're betting won't survive to see 2013.

What MACY'S isn't on the list??? They need to be! The have become a monopoly and should be investigated with unscrupulous business practices, going largely hidden under the rug, because they pay people off to be quiet and have a horde of lawyers ready to sue anyone who crosses them, shutting more people up. Have all their own Private Label goods made cheaply overseas, EVEN their Customer Service has gone overseas! Their so called sales are a big joke with all the price manipulation. They don't want to pay people what they duly deserve, put workers on part-time schedules so they aren't eligible for Healthcare Benefits, expect people to work Holidays, so they have no life with family beyond the job, while barely able to make do with the salary received and have to find 2nd and third jobs to get by! Not to mention, want everyone to shop there, wasting hard earned money on cheaply made overseas goods. The Thanksgiving Parade is a joke - Macy's DOESN"T PAY for that!!! All the companies in it do! Macy's just reaps the BIG profits with the sponsorships and advertising that goes with it! Its called being a wolf in sheep's clothing. Its all about how much money they can suck us in to give them. Maybe the CEO plan to take it to their graves!

Maybe... maybe not. I recall Apple's near demise in the late '90's... mmm... things certainly look very different today. Plus, let's not forget about AOL and it's own disastrous history with Time Warner and subsequent tailspin. Things have a way of turning around for some companies. Perhaps the same may be said for those listed.

I will do an "I told you so" to Ms. Winifrey. When you think you are bigger and wiser than your Creator, He will just have to show you that HE has more power than you think. I guess now you would begin to look over your life and realize who kept you....Hint: It wasn't you or these people on this Earth.

American doesn't need to merge with US Air. US Air still hasn't combined the seniority lists of its pilots and put them on a single contract, because the US Air and former America West pilots can't agree how to do that. The flight attendants can't combine seniority lists, until the pilots do.

So, how bad would the labor situation be, if you then tried to merge AA's labor groups, which haven't been happy with management for several years, into the mix? The AA pilots would be fighting with the US pilots simply over which union would be the bargaining agent, the APA or the USAPA.

American has a number of fuel efficient narrowbody aircraft on order, as well as 787s and several 777-300s. It's the 900-pound gorilla in Latin America, with its Miami hub. It has one of the most desirable alliance partners in British Airways. It has a major presence on the three largest business markets in the U.S., New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

American simply needs to reduce its debt load and restructure its labor costs, so that hourly pay, work rules, and health & retirement benefits are in line with costs at United and Delta.

Besides, if AA merged with US Air, don't you think that the American name would stay?

Another nail in OWN's coffin is the fact that cable subscribers are dropping cable in record numbers. If Oprah had stayed on network TV, she'd have a much bigger audience.

t-mobile was on this list last year. and the year before that. and i believe the year before that. t-mobile is just like a cockroach, you can't kill it. maybe its time for people to stop assuming they're gonna die over and over and over again if you predicted they were going byebye the previous three years running.

if Oprah took the canceled soaps from ABC... this ratings problem would not exist... but she didn't. Oh well.
