Macy's to Keep Stores Open 24 Hours for Holiday Shopping Homestretch

Macy's Brings Back 24-Hour Holiday Shopping In a bid to give shoppers more time to scoop up holiday gifts while dangling the carrot of shorter lines and fewer crowds, Macy's (M) will once again keep select stores open for 24-hours for a three-day buying bender.

Starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 14 Macy's stores, mostly on the East Coast and in the Midwest, will stay open for 83 hours straight until Christmas Eve on Saturday, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.

The department store chain -- which started the 24-hour holiday sales in 2006 -- will keep an additional 27 stores open until 2 a.m. on those same three nights, 18 more than in 2010.

Macy's move to keep more stores open later during the homestretch of the shopping blitz comes on the heels of a holiday selling season that started earlier than ever.

For the first time, Macy's, along with chains such as Target (TGT), Best Buy (BBY) and Kohl's (KSS), opened at midnight on Black Friday, the official kickoff to the holiday shopping season, to whip consumers into a buying mood early with the hopes of generating more sales.

Here's a list of the Macy's stores that will be open 24 hours, and until 2 a.m.

These stores still just don't get it, do they. They think people are not shopping because of higher prices. Some of it, is the reason, but on the truer side. There is no money to shop with. The oil companies, the mortage companies, have robbed people blind. No jobs, must I go on. Take the blind fold off, people.

How would you like to be a Macy's sales person on the hoot owl shift (on your feet constantly at 3 am).

Hopefully, they're getting triple time wages (and commissions).

And,people think that Wal Mart treats their employees bad. Select stores makes it better? Hardly. It is all about the profits and always will be with these retailers.

Trying to milk every penny, but what's really revolting is that Macy's prices are some of the highest in retail, and keeping some of their stores open super-extended hours will push 'em even higher.

Santa Claus is going to have to stay up all night. His reindeers can sleep until Xmas eve. Macy toy train will be leaving every hour and arriving untill the engineer runs out of gas. Clerks will be provided with free deodorant and insoles.

This is a shameful disregard for the lives and families of employees during the holiday season. I remember many years ago when Macy's was the one major store in the mall to post a sign that said they would be closed on July 4th to allow employees an opportunity to share the day with their families--now corporate greed is all that matters to any company. Stores are open many long hours for weeks ahead of Christmas and it's not like it sneaks up on you. As someone who worked retail many years (and no longer does, thank goodness) I know how hard it is to enjoy time with the people you love when you are exhausted from long days and overnights. I'm confident the vast majority of Americans find this offensive and unnecessary.

Macy's is by far ,one of the worst Big stores in my mall.Macy's sends you coupons that you have to get out your magnifying glasses to see all the exclusions on it ,and you all know what I am talking about..J.C.Penny's is the place for me.They issue coupons with virtually no exclusions, they are happy to have you as a customer ,just by virtue of their coupons. It's aways a great experience shopping J.C.Penny's,and I have received many a great deal @ J.C... Macy's is more hype then anything else..

You clearly misread whay ever you think you read or heard. They fired the lady because she did not agree with company policy. She confronted a tansexual, after he had left the womans changing room and in front of her 5 friends accused him/her of being a man. The Customer was dressed in womans clothes and was buying womans clothes which he/she had just tried on in the fitting room.

A transexual is still thier born sex. I could wear a wig and a dress, but I am still a male. A female could get a crew cut, wrap thier breasts and stuff thier pant but they are still a female. So 'rebel0498' til they have their 'operation' by law they are thier born sex and must use facilities for thier born gender.
