The holidays are one big party as you merrily move from one event to the next. But amid all the good cheer, the season hides a sobering number of pitfalls for your finances, and not just ones that involve overspending. I see from the comments that my opinion that many US citizens are undereducated and have the frame of reference of rodents is close to reality.

How in the world are you, as the host, supposed to know they are drunk ? Give all your friends breathalyzer tests? And what can you do if they are? Keep them in your house by force? Ever hear of false imprisonment?
This is equally true of bar owners also. How do you know which of your customers is drunk and, if you do, what are you supposed to do about it? If you refuse to serve someone, you are risking a suit for "discrimination". And if you don't, do you take their car keys? Grand theft auto!
How about blaming the person who chose to get drunk and then got behind the wheel of a car? Why not sue them? Isn't it a novel idea to actually blame the person at fault?
Its the people on the jury that allows it.

I have never understood, for the life of me, how hundreds of people every day, of every week, of every year, gather in bars and get loaded, go out and drive. kill innocent people and nobody holds any of these people who own the establishments responsible. Hell, if the cops wanted to enforce the drunk driving laws, just go out and sit across the street from these joints and get as many as you want. Everybody knows damned well that none of these people go in there, stay all night and have just ONE drink. Just makes me crazy.

If you drink too much and drive, that's on you, nobody forced you to drink. The host should in no way be made responsible for other people's irresponsibility.
