Toys R Us to Hire 40,000 for the Holidays

×
If you're looking for a seasonal job, here's your chance. Toy retailer Toys R Us announced Thursday that it would hire 40,000 workers this holiday season. Beginning this week and running through November, the company is accepting applications for a range of jobs around the U.S.

In a press release, Executive Vice President of Human Resources Dan Caspersen said "We are proud to create tens of thousands of jobs across the country this Christmas, while providing the potential for hardworking individuals to find a permanent position with us."

In previous years, the company has hired between 35,000-45,000 holiday workers. And with millions of Americans still out of work, the holidays will offer an opportunity to earn some extra cash. According to a new report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas, a global outplacement firm that tracks hiring and firing, companies are expected to hire around the same or less than last year's 627,600 jobs from October through December.

While Toys R Us says some holiday jobs may turn into full-time positions, that certainly won't be a reality for many seasonal workers this year as companies remain reluctant to hire permanently amid a sluggish economy.

Is the government giving them our tax dollars to hire these people to make the unemployment numbers look better? I wouldn't put it past them to do this. ha ha ha ha The people in this country are so lazy and our government is weak.

Obama controls your destiny? No wonder you're in that position, if you believe Obama can get you out of it.

Watch obama and his posse try to convince the American people that 40,000 "created or saved" jobs (all seasonal and temporary) are the result of his new job plan. The same thing he's done the last two years when the part time Christmas hiring began.

And as you said, these are seasonal and or part time employment. The unemployment rate may change a little now, and be spun as improvement in the economy, but next year when the holiday season ends, and all those people are laid off, then what. This is no different than when all those workers were hired for the census, a few months of temporary employment only.
