Ford to Recall 1.1M Pickup for Gas Tank Problem

Ford recallFord Motor Co. (F) says it is recalling 1.1 million pickup trucks because the gas tanks can fall off and cause a fire.

The company is recalling certain Ford F-150, F-250 and Lincoln Blackwood pickups. The recall affects certain models from the 1997 model year through the 2004 model year. They were sold in cold-weather states where salt is used to clear roads. That salt can corrode straps holding the tanks in place.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday on its website that the straps holding up the tanks can rust, causing them to fall to the ground. The tanks can rupture and cause a fire.

Ford reported eight incidents of the tanks falling, resulting in three injuries.

Ford's F-Series pickup traditionally is the top-selling vehicle in the U.S.

Recalls seem to be becoming the norm in the automotive industry. The problem continues to be that most people don't understand them and how they need to go about handling them. Here's an article that provides some clarification. http://blog.tirevan.com/2011/08/09/auto-safety-recalls-explained/

Gas tank falling off and catching fire. Wow. And people said Toyota was a POS cause the gas pedal sometimes got stuck when the floor mat was pushed forward by the driver.

Actually, the F-Series is the best selling vehicle and has been since the late 70's. The automotive industry has recognized this for 30+ years. I'm sure it doesn't agree with your "love for anything GM" attitude, but who really cares!!!!

Why do we demand do much free stuff from auto companies. Thousands of moving parts, very high temps, hard driving and minimum maint. and we expect them to pay for everything for every. You don't think this makes them more expensive to buy!!?? Yet we buy a house with NO moving parts and after 1 year we are on our own.
My old Emerson(Made in USA) dehumidifer quit awhile back.(Got 20 years out of it.) I have to buy a new one every 2 years now(None made in USA,Emerson out of business). Check reviews to verify this.
