An outdoor wood burning fireplace sold at Lowe's stores has been recalled after 14 reports of the chimney's bronze finish catching fire, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
So far, no one has been hurt, but its manufacturer, Sunjoy Industries Group Ltd., has gotten one report of melted house siding, CPSC said.
Included in the recall is the freestanding Garden Treasures Living steel outdoor fireplace with a bronze-finish chimney and slate-colored accents. The wood-burning fireplace is about 24-inches deep, 35-inches wide and 57-inches tall with two glass doors. The item number 0027705 and model number L-OF082PST-3 is printed on the front page of the fireplace's instruction manual. About 20,000 were sold at Lowe's stores in the United States between March 1, 2010 and Nov. 15, 2010 for about $300. Another 400 were sold in Canada.
Consumers should not use the China-made fireplaces, but contact Sunjoy at (877) 343-5651 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. or by email for a free replacement chimney and chimney cap. Sunjoy apologized to consumers "for any inconvenience this may have caused you."
Yankee Candle taper candles and pillar candles sold at Bed, Bath & Beyond during this past holiday season were recalled because paint on those candles could catch fire too.
