10 Companies With Great Customer Service

great customer service is not like a boomerangWhat do you think of when you hear the term "Great customer service"? I usually think of companies that spend more time telling me they have great customer service than they do actually providing great customer service.

There are, however, companies out there that know what great customer service really means. Recently a survey by the National Retail Foundation and American Express came up with a list of the top 10 companies.

So which companies did they say really put customers first?The findings, in order:
  1. Zappos.com
  2. Amazon.com
  3. LL Bean
  4. Overstock.com
  5. Land's End
  6. JCPenney
  7. Kohl's
  8. QVC
  9. Nordstrom
  10. Newegg
The study used a rather open-ended question, "Thinking of all the different retail formats (store, catalog, Internet or home shopping), which retailer delivers the best customer service?"

Unfortunately, they didn't break this down into customer service elements, such as
  • Return policy (Full refund? Store credit? How long after purchase? No questions asked?)
  • Warranty
  • Speed of return
  • Ease of return
  • Who pays for return postage

It would be most interesting to see which companies finished at the bottom in the survey, but those results weren't revealed. Which national companies would you rate as the worst at customer service?
