Global temperatures in 2010 tied 2005 for the warmest on record, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said Wednesday.

Last year's average temperature was about 1.34 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the average global surface temperature from 1951 to 1980, NASA said. The next warmest years on record were 1998, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007.

NASA's findings will likely further stir debate over whether human activity is increasing temperatures and jeopardizing global habitats. Some scientists say the warming is set to increase as developing countries expand their economies and produce more greenhouse gases.

"If the warming trend continues, as is expected, if greenhouse gases continue to increase, the 2010 record will not stand for long," James Hansen, the director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, said in a statement.

Earlier this month, the 112th Congress disbanded the Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming. The committee, which was started four years ago by then House speaker Nancy Pelosi, held 80 hearings and briefings, taking on issues such as the 2009 climate bill, which was voted down by the Senate, and the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil-rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.

wfreeberg.........good question. We live in a fallen world but it never used to be that way. Sin entered this world via Adam and Eve and everything became tainted and corrupted even down to the DNA level, and the utopia was no more. God gave us free will. He did not want robotic God followers. He wants us to have a relationship with Him just like Adam and Eve did before they sinned. Our fleshly nature separates us from Holy God. The good news is that He loves us so much He sent Jesus the Christ to bear all our sin nature upon His death at Calvary. If we repent of our sins, confess that Jesus is Lord and Savior and acknowledge what He did for us on the cross we will receive the Holy Spirit and become a new creation in God's eyes and be able to have eternal fellowship with Him once again. Remember..."For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son,that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world though Him might be saved."

...................Thousands of years ago we had a massive global Ice Age. There were no cars, planes or factories to cause manmade global warming yet the earth warmed up and the massive global Ice Age vanished. Why did that happen? God is in control.

If God is in control and is all powerful and is all good, why would he let bad things happen?

Dr. James Hansen, one of Al Gore’s chief allies on his global-warming crusade, has cooked the books before, and he did it again: Northern Hemisphere - The winter of 2009–2010 in Europe was unusually cold. Globally there were atypical snowfalls in several parts of the Northern Hemisphere. In January 2010, the northern half of Europe experienced its coldest winters since 1981–1982. Southern Hemisphere - Snow in Tasmania - In the summer! - 27 Dec 10 - "Hobart residents woke this morning to snow on Mount Wellington. A strong cold front which passed over the city in Tasmania's south last night left the light covering of snow. The temperature on the mountain is sitting at -3 degrees Celsius this morning."
