Stieg Larsson's bestselling The Girl book series, Activision Blizzard's (ATVI) Call of Duty: Black Ops and Amazons own Kindle e-reader topped both the "most popular" and "most wished-for" lists at the world's largest online retailer. Apple's (AAPL) MacBook Pro laptop and Microsoft's (MSFT) 2010 Home & Student software package also topped their respective categories.
Activision said last week its most recent Call of Duty video-game title surpassed $1 billion in global sales since its Nov. 9 release, making it the fastest-selling video-game in history. The only other entertainment title to reach the $1 billion mark within the same time frame was the late-2009 Fox (NWS) film release of Avatar, Activision said.
Amazon said in October that sales through the first three quarters of 2009 jumped 42% from a year earlier to $21.3 billion, with fourth-quarter sales forecast at between $12 billion and $13.3 billion.
