The new show "Sarah Palin's Alaska" attracted a record number of viewers for its debut on the TLC network Sunday night, parent company Discovery Communications (DISCA) said Monday.

The show attracted 4.96 million viewers, beating out the 2003 debut of "What Not To Wear," according to figures from Nielsen. "Sarah Palin's Alaska" attracted more than double the average number of viewers for the last six weeks of TLC's Sunday night prime time shows.

Discovery's decision to launch a show featuring the ex-Alaska governor and one-time vice presidential candidate raised eyebrows. After all, the company features pro-nature programming and Palin's regulatory record has been criticized by environmentalists. The show's executive producer is Mark Burnett of "Survivor" and "The Apprentice" fame.

Palin has remained in the public eye since resigning as Alaska's governor last year and continues to be considered a possible Republican candidate for president in 2012. Her book, "Going Rogue," was a bestseller in 2009.

The environmental extremist fringe doesn't understand that Palin likes the environment,as do most Conservatives. We just don't want to live in the 8th century.

Watch it for the scenery ! Visited Alaska in 2007 and if you love nature/outdoors then this has to be at the top of your list ! Stunningly Beautiful -every direction you gaze ! Hope to get back soon. Even stayed at the Best Western on Lake Lucille north of Wasilla. It is expensive up there and the Palins have no money issues obviously. These little side trips would cost thousands of dollars for 3-4 people. Three of us took a Mt McKinley(Denali) scenic plane ride ($250 each) from our Talkeetna hotel ($400 night). Went to Hawaii in 2008 and its cheaper than Alaska ! You must go to both as soon as you can- start saving your pennies!

People tuned in because they wanted to watch a shipwreck happen. Lots of pretty scenery but let's face it. Who has that kind of money to live like that except a millionaire. Don't let her kid you...she isn't every day people. She's a con artist.
