Nissan Recalls More Than 600,000 Vehicles

NissanJapanese automaker Nissan (NSANY) is recalling more than 600,000 vehicles to fix potential problems on the lower steering column joint and shaft, and the positive battery cable terminal.

The company said that corrosion on the lower column joint on certain Frontier and Xterra vehicles can lead to cracking of the steering shaft. Some Sentras may also have an issue with the connector on the positive battery cable terminal that could cause stalling at low speeds.

No accidents or injuries have been reported for either problem.

"At Nissan, we're committed to the safety and satisfaction of our customers. We regret any inconveniences that our customers may experience as we address these issues," said Kevin Martin, vice president of Nissan North America.

Nissan will replace the steering column joint and shaft on about 303,000 Frontiers and 283,000 Xterras in North America and Latin America. The cars were made in Tennessee and Brazil between July 2001 and June 2008.

The positive battery cable terminal will be replaced on about 18,500 Sentras in North American, Latin American and African countries.

Looks like 'Nissan' doesn't want to be outshined by 'Toyota'! Buy American or move to Japan!! Yes American cars use imported parts (how many American electronic companies are making radios/cd-dvd players/gps units/ect.) but how many recalls have American cars have had for self driving cars and brake failures? I would rather buy an American car from an American company that was manufactured in America (buyers check, some American cars are manufactured in Mexico. Ask your dealer and make sure that car you will be making payments on is MANUFACTURED here by AMERICANS) that contains some imported parts verus a Nissan made here sending the 36 months of payments to Japan!!

Where the vehicle is manufactured has nothing to do with this type of defect. How the company manages its supply base IS!!! and in most cases they squeeze the supply base so hard for cost they are forced into taking higher risks in the manufacture of parts....thus resulting in more defective parts escaping. With the automotive mindset this type of activity will NEVER end!!!!

Read the article it says these vehicles were manufactured in Tennessee and Brazil. Tennessee is still part of the U.S. Ford, GM, and Chrysler products have parts manufactured in other countries why are you not castizing them?
