Dell to Ditch BlackBerry, Give Employees a Dell Smartphone

Dell (DELL) will ditch the BlackBerry and give employees a Dell smartphone.

The change will affect about 25,000 Dell employees who currently use a company issued BlackBerry, Reuters reported. Dell employs about 100,000 people in total.

Dell also plans to encourage its business clients to make the switch to Dell's own smartphone, the Dell Venue Pro. The Venue Pro runs on Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows Phone 7 software.

Research In Motion (RIMM), the maker of the BlackBerry, was a pioneer in the smartphone market but has seen its market dominance eroded by devices such as the Apple (AAPL) iPhone.
