YahooYahoo (YHOO) appointed Ross Levinsohn as executive vice president of the Americas region.

Levinsohn, who previously worked for News Corp. (NWS), CBS Sportsline and HBO, will be responsible for Yahoo's media group, ad sales and partnerships for the Americas region, the company said in a statement.

"Ross has a phenomenal track record of executing digital media strategies that increase user engagement and, most importantly, accelerate topline growth," said Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz. "I am confident that Ross's strategic vision, in addition to his deep industry experience, will allow us to solidify our position as the largest digital media, content and communications business around the globe."

Prior to joining Yahoo, Levinsohn was managing director of Fuse Capital, an investment firm focused on digital media and communication companies.

Levinsohn worked as the president of News Corp.'s Fox Interactive Media. He also oversaw content and development for CBS Sportsline and ran a unit developing new programming for HBO.

"Yahoo! is one of the premier Internet companies in the world," Levinsohn said. "Having this opportunity to work with a group of immensely talented people to enhance Yahoo!'s leadership position is a once in a lifetime opportunity."
