Barack Obama and Steve Jobs Talk Competitiveness and Employment

President Barack Obama talked turkey with Apple (AAPL) CEO and founder Steve Jobs on Thursday, covering a wide range of topics from American competitiveness to job creation, according to a Reuters report.

Obama, whose last face-to-face with Jobs may have been back in 2008 during the presidential campaign, was interested in meeting up with the creator of the iPhone and turnaround king. According to the report, the pair discussed energy independence, creating jobs, education, driving the U.S. to remain competitive and the president's Race to the Top initiative.

Jobs is definitely competitive. If anyone doubts that, they should have tuned into Apple's third quarter earnings call, where he ripped into competitors over their efforts to match the success of Apple's iPad tablet computer and iPhone, according to a post on TechCrunch. Obama met with Jobs during a four-day tour he was making through the West to lend a hand to Democrats running for congressional seats and governorships.

Almost EVERY product Apple makes is made in China. Apple has been giving jobs away just like every other major company in the USA.

I believe that President Obama discussed with Steve Jobs the problem of solving the illegal Border crossing. Boeing had the contract and has not been able to meet the goals set, and it has cost the federal government $850 million since 2006.I believe that high tech companies like Apple, and other IT companies could better solve the problem of a virtual fence. Well maybe not, but let's hope the question did come up, and we can solve this problem, without incurring such a high cost. A.R.

Construction work is very low and another hurricane would for sure benefit some businesses here in south florida, but this is now what would solve the problem for the majority. DecoTruss

most of what this country needs is to stop political bickering and encourage busienss to do more of what Apple has been doing . Except for Apple and Lady Gaga there is very little innovation in this country. That is what will create jobs and get the economy moving. However , it doesn't seem like companies like IBM,Microsoft , etc are the least bit embarrassed by Apple doing so well . Similarly banks after all the mortgage mess lack the integrity and discipline to get foreclosures right and they get away with it.
