Swedish automaker Volvo is recalling 9,746 cars in the U.S. to repair driver's side airbags that may not deploy during a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported Wednesday.Faulty wiring may prevent the driver's side airbag from deploying as intended or at all, increasing the risk of injuries during a crash, NHTSA said in a posting on its website. The models involved are the 2010 and 2011 S80 and XC70; the 2010 V70; and the 2011 XC60.
Owners of affected vehicles will begin receiving notices on Oct. 29 with instructions on where to bring recalled vehicles for repair.
Volvo was until recently a part of Ford Motor (F). The Dearborn, Mich., company completed the sale of the European luxury brand to China's Geely Holding Group in August.
