Skype Releases Android Smartphone App

Skype released its app for Android phones today.

Phones using Google's (GOOG) Android 2.1 and 2.2 operating systems can download the free app now, Electronista reported. The app lets users make free Skype-to-Skype calls over wireless Internet in the U.S. In Europe, users can make Skype calls over GPRS, EDGE and 3G.

Skype also lets users make low-cost calls to landlines and mobile phones. The app will synchronize Skype contacts with the phone's address book.

Users can also access instant messaging and receive calls through an online Skype phone number.
