Target confirmed that the company will begin selling the Apple iPad on Oct. 3 in its retail stores. This announcement confirms earlier rumors and is a move that mirrors Best Buy's recent announcement that all of its electronics stores would carry the iPad; just in time for Black Friday and the holiday shopping season.
Both Target and Best Buy will carry several iPad models, including the 16GB iPad Wi-Fi that starts at $499 as well as the 32GB and 64GB Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi 3G models, which retail for $599 to $829. It isn't clear if Target will carry the 16GB Wi-Fi+3G model, which retails for $629, but Best Buy stores will be stocking it.
This is good news for shoppers looking for an iPad this holiday season without the need to order online or trek to the local Apple Store. The other good news is with more stores carrying the Pad, it will be easier for users to get hands-on time with the device to see if it's something they want.
At a Best Buy media event in NYC, CEO Brian Dunn said consumers can, "See them all side by side." He said being able to compare the iPad and the eReaders first hand was a big reason for coming into the store as opposed to ordering online and added that the retail staff is prepared to answer the questions that shoppers may have.
If you're looking for an iPad this holiday season, it still may be hard to find one on the store shelves. Instead of calling every 20 minutes and asking if it's there, visit Milo.com where you can find out which Target or which Best Buy locations near you have the iPad in stock - in real time.
The best news for iPad shoppers this fall is that we will likely see some good Black Friday iPad deals at Target and Best Buy. No, you aren't going to find the iPad for 10% off, but it is very likely that we will see iPad bundles on Black Friday that offer a great value for shoppers. This matches up with WalletPop's Black Friday 2010 predictions and the practices we have seen on past Black Fridays with other Apple products.
Given that last Black Friday at Target we saw $15 gift cards bundled with the 8GB iPod Nano and a $30 Gift card paired with the 32GB iPod Touch, it wouldn't be surprising to see a Black Friday iPad deal that includes store gift cards or iTunes credit.
