Best Buy Will Give Away Phones Each Friday in October for Mobile Promotion

Best Buy Inc. (BBY) will give away four types of mobile phones each Friday in October, marking the largest U.S. electronics retailer's effort to maintain momentum after beating earnings estimates for its most recently completed quarter.

The company will offer one free phone each from carriers Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile every Friday starting Oct. 1, Best Buy said in a statement today. The Samsung Fascinate (Verizon), BlackBerry Curve (Sprint), HTC Aria (AT&T) and Samsung Gravity 3 (T-Mobile) will be the phones offered for free this Friday, said Best Buy, which will require a two-year commitment with the giveaway.

Best Buy hopes the promotions will boost revenue from mobile-phone subscriptions, upgrades and accessories. The company said earlier this month that earnings for the quarter ended Aug. 28 surged 61% as average spending per customer more than offset a decline in consumer traffic.

On each of the Thursdays before the remaining four Fridays of the month, Best Buy will use the Best Buy Mobile Facebook page and Twitter account to announce which phones will be given away.

I was ORDERED and paid in excess of $500,000 to take over a federal contract (direct supervision) on the west coast for 90 days. My standard SOP found 37 workers working in NYC and simultaneously in Washington State and California. I fired them ALL immediately and was sued for illegal termination via both States. I have an extreme legal degree and found it challenging. I won the lawsuit as all agreed I am a LOUD VOICE that enjoys the press. Ironically both states feared the lost of 5 billion in federal aid contracts. I have (zero problems) and a KNOWN reputation of walking away from mega million dollar contracts for illegal activity, regardless of liberal politics. I realize this has nothing to do with cell phones, but feel compelled to respond to the idiotic post of racial discrimination prior

I can't help but laugh at the blatant stupidity of many posters on this board. As a Large employer who pays better than average wages I can afford to hire the best. I care less if you meet minimum qualifications for the job postings. I am looking for what makes you stand out from the crowd. It has nothing to do with discrimination, it's purely business economics. I always prefer a recent job history over a college education. Being brutally honest college means far less today than it did 20 years ago. I need to know your social justice attitudes before I hire you, as social elites are far less profitable

Ahhhhh Best Buy. This is the company that told their employees NOT to wish people Merry Christmas, while at the same time they tried to fully exploit the Christmas Holidays. Nor would they put up any signs saying "Merry Christmas". I don't buy...from Best Buy!

A free phone for a two-year contract? Don't all the phone companies offer that? And they do it every day of the week, not just on Fridays. Why do you need Best Buy as a middleman?

I bought a Verizon prepaid phone for $15 at Biglots. It came with $10 worth of airtime, so the phone only cost $5. I then paid $100 for a year of airtime. Since I seldom use the phone, it's been costing around $7 a month out of that $100.
