Swivel Sweeper G2 is a tomato-red, dust bunny chaser that's good for a quick cleanup.
The G2 is the latest in the Swivel Sweeper franchise. This one adds an elbow joint for cleaning under couches and a magnetic latch for folding and stowing the sweeper in almost no space at all.
Nice touches. But how does the Swivel sweep?
All sweepers -- battery-powered or arm-powered -- fall into a cleaning no-man's land. They're easier to use than a broom and dustpan, but not as thorough as a vacuum. The cordless sweepers usually last a year or so, then their batteries lose charge and the thing just peters out.
The Swivel Sweeper G2 weighs in at only two pounds and feels pretty flimsy. But it sweeps along baseboards and dances around furniture with ease. And since you can hide it anywhere, it's good for a quick sweep after dinner or before a neighbor comes for coffee.
The problem is that the Swivel Sweeper G2 is hit-or-miss. Sometimes it picks up crumbs, bits of paper and dust bunnies like a pro. Other times, it just pushes the dirt around, shoots crumbs in all directions, eats paper then coughs it up.
Swivel Sweeper G2 worked better on my hardwood floors than on my rugs or carpets. It won't eat pet hair stuck on carpet fibers, and it's iffy at picking up the leaves the dogs carry in.
The Swivel Sweeper G2 costs about $40, plus another $15 for shipping and handling.
Bottom line on the Swivel Sweeper?
It's a lightweight that's good for a quick go-round.
If it lasts a year, I'll be pleasantly surprised.
