United and Continental Shareholders to Vote on Merger

Shareholders of United's parent company UAL Corp (UAUA). and Continental Airlines (CAL) will vote today on a merger deal that would create the world's biggest airline. Results of the votes are expected later today, The Associated Press reported.

If shareholders vote in favor, the deal may close in the next two weeks. Then the new company will have to tackle issues including labor deals and combining reservation systems. The new airline would be called United and be based in Chicago. The current Continental CEO would run the new company.

I agree with the previous post. United USED TO BE a first class airline. Now it's at the bottom. I hope this merger isn't a way to destroy Continental. Continental is a first class airline. When you fly Continental you are treated like a human being.. not an animal. I hate United's boarding process... literally yelling at passengers to be seated and stowing their overhead bags. Very rude. United has so many 'Gimmicks'.. an extra charge for Economy Plus, an extra charge for anything. I almost missed a flight to Buenos Aires due to United being delayed out of O'Hare. I ordered a drink and then ordered another drink to calm me down due to the delay and almost missing the flight. The flight attendant told me next time I order a drink to make it a double otherwise they'd never get dinner served.. on a 10 hour flight?? Like one drink will make a difference. AND I paid a fortune for the flight. And she was serious and surley!!!!How rude!!!..I had Premeier status which obviously meant nothing. This is what United has become!!! Who did they divest the 'Friendly Skies' to? I've never experienced such rudeness with Continental. Nor does Continental nickel and dime you for the basics. It's too bad Southwest didn't buy United and teach United how an airline CAN be run.
