Fresh Express salads are once again being recalled, this time 2,825 cases of Veggie Lover's salad that could have been sold in more than two dozen states and could be contaminated with listeria, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
Fresh Express, owned by Chiquita, had a major recalled last month of romaine lettuce products that could have been tainted with e.coli. In the spring, Fresh Express had another recall over Salmonella concerns -- giving the bagged salad brand the triple-crown of food poisoning risk with recalls for listeria, e.coli and salmonella all within three months.
The recalled Veggie Lovers salads have product code I208 and are marked to use by Aug. 10. The FDA said no illnesses have been linked to the salads. If you have one of the packages, you are asked to throw it away.
"We are continuing to work with regulatory officials in their investigation," Chiquita said in a statement sent by spokesman Ed Loyd. "At this point in time and based on available information, we have no reason to conclude this is anything other than an isolated incident, but we will continue to mount a full investigation until all facts are known."
The statement continued about the other incidents: "Recently, we experienced two similar situations in which a random sample test of one package of salad yielded a positive result for a microorganism. In each case we pursued an aggressive investigation as did regulatory officials and in each instance, regulators found no evidence indicating a larger food safety event beyond the isolated test result. However, we take any incident seriously and food safety remains our highest priority..."

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause food poisoning and a variety of gastrointestinal problems. Pregnant women and adults with compromised immune systems are the most vulnerable to a serious illness.
The FDA said the recall was prompted by the discovery of listeria in a Veggie Lovers Salad yielded a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes in a random sample test collected and conducted by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
The bagged salads were sold in the following states: Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Kansas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. They might have also been redistributed to the following states: Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virginia, Iowa, Minnesota, District of Columbia, Vermont, New Hampshire, Nebraska, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Mississippi.
