Disney Mickey MouseWalt Disney (DIS) theme parks, touted as the happiest places on earth, just got a little more expensive.

The entertainment and media conglomerate announced Thursday that it raised ticket prices at Disneyland and Disney World from 3.7% to 9.6%. The increase raises the price of a one-day adult ticket to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. from $79 to $82, and season pass prices rise between $10 and $18.

Disney reports earnings next week, and analysts are taking note of the price increase, and expecting stronger results.

"[The price increase] indicates that park revenues are holding up, despite building economic pressure and no discounting," said Analyst Tony Wible of Janney Montgomery Scott in a report.

Robert Niles, editor of Theme Park Insider magazine, said the increases of about 1% to 3% were no surprise and are "fairly modest" compared with the price hikes of about five or six years ago.

Prices for previously purchased tickets and passes will not be affected.

For next week's earnings report, Disney is expected to post a third-quarter profit of 59 cents per share, a figure that is up roughly 13% from last year's earnings of 52 cents per share for the same period. The company has beat analyst estimates over the past four quarters.

This year the company's film division released Iron Man 2, which grossed $334 million in global box office sales in its first two weeks. Disney's per share price was up slightly to close at $34.98.

It was always a struggle to include Disney World as part of our family Florida vacations in the past and now that the kids are grown, I'd have a hard time justifying that expense for even just my husband and I. I really feel for families that have to save so long and hard like we did for a day or two of fun. Before long, the only people visiting will be the Europeans that love to include Disney World as part of their 3 week holidays each year. If Disney can still be making profits in this economy, you'd think they'd show their gratitude by making it more affordable.

What happened to all the previous comments.? Yesterday there were many more and most all negative as to the price raising. Guess It was to much Huh ? and had to erase. Sad As far as the comment about Low lifes only can't afford Disney, what a nasty remark. My father was a diligent hard worker with high moral standards when i was a child. A good and honest man,BUT NEVER COULD AFFORD TO TAKE HIS FAMILY TO DISNEY. Do you feel superior now that you have made an asinine comment, Knightroo ?

Thats why I, and most middle class families don't go to Disneyland any more..too damn expensive. $328 for a family of four just to get through the gates, then spend 90% of your time waiting in lines. Oh, and then the high food prices! Easily spend over $400 to spend your day with crowds in lines..and that's if you live locally close to one. If you don't, then add hotel, airfare, car rental. Lot better vacation choices for a family than Disney.

I will not go back. I do not wish to spend hours in waiting lines and being able to see only 3 or 4 major attractions.

how about lowering the prices to entice Americns to come to Disney parks - you are scaring people away with your greed - once in the park they milk you for all you're worth

Disney deliberately keeps the prices just out of reach of the "average" American, the philosophy is to keep out low lifes, and anyone who DOES end up visiting appreciates it that much more. But Obama is sending free tickets to underachieving welfare recipients and illegal immigrants, so no worries.
