Tots in Mind has recalled its tents that attach to the top of portable play yards after death of a toddler was connected to a design flaw, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada announced. At the same time, the CPSC is warning consumers about both crib and play yard tents after receiving 10 complaints in three years -- including the one death and another near-death. A big problem, the agency said, is parents not using the provided equipment to secure the tents. The accessories are typically used to keep more mobile youngsters from climbing out.
About 20,000 Cozy Indoor Outdoor Portable Playard Tents Plus Cabana Kits are subject to the recall. The Chinese-made tents are mesh domes supposed to be secured by a dozen plastic clips. They are sold by Walmart, Amazon.com and other retailers from January 2005-February 2010 for about $60, the CPSC said.
Stop using the tents and get new clips from Tots in Mind. The clips will not be available until the end of next month or September.
