Microsoft Says Alleged Russian Spy Was Employee

MicrosoftMicrosoft Corp. (MSFT) said that one of the members of an alleged Russian spy ring in the U.S. worked for the company at its headquarters in Redmond, Wa.

Alexey Karetnikov, a Russian citizen in his early 20s, worked as a software tester for Microsoft for nine months, Bloomberg News reported.

Ten members of the spy ring have pleaded guilty to conspiring to serve as unregistered foreign agents on June 8 in a U.S. federal court. They planned to infiltrate policy-making circles after building false American identifies.

Karetnikov was deported on charges of violating U.S immigration laws, Bloomberg News said, citing a report in Russian state-run news service Itar-Tass. Karetnikov agreed to deportation to avoid court proceedings.
