Ford is recalling 33,728 Transit Connect vans for failing to meet federal standards for occupant protection in a crash. Pushpins that hold in place overhead material in the vehicles' headliner present a higher risk for head injury during a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Models involved were manufactured from Dec. 5, 2008 until May 31, NHTSA said.
Separately, Chrysler is recalling 22,118 of its 2010 Dodge Nitro, Dodge Ram, Jeep liberty and Jeep Wrangler models because of potential defective brake tubes, the agency said. The faulty tubes could lead to the loss of brake fluid.
Ford will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles July 19 for service at their local dealerships, NHTSA said. Chrysler will begin sending out notices in August.
