Biz Brief: BP Execs Should Kill Themselves, Congressman Says

BP (BP) executives responsible for cleaning up the Gulf oil spill should commit ritual suicide, a congressman suggested at a House energy committee hearing Tuesday. Addressing BP America President Lamar McKay, Representative Ahn "Joseph" Cao (R-La.), a Vietnamese-American, suggested that the oil giant's management team look to the East for ideas in coping with the worst oil spill in U.S. history, FoxNews.com reported.

"In the Asian culture, we do things differently," Cao said. "During the Samurai days, we'd just give you the knife and ask you to commit hara-kiri," the congressman added, describing the traditional Japanese practice of suicide by disembowelment.

Cao is the latest elected representative to call for the death of a corporate executive. Last March, Iowa Republican Senator Charles Grassley said human beings working for AIG (AIG) who accepted bonus money should either quit "or go commit suicide."
