Staples and Entrepreneur are offering small business owners the chance to win a $10,000 office makeover designed to transform ho-hum work spaces from corporate blah to groovy, global green.
To enter from now until June 4, go to www.Entrepreneur.com/greenoffice and write in 100 words or less how and why you would use the money to create a more sustainable space. Helpful hints are also provided at the site to get inspiration flowing.
For instance: create a more efficient system for recycling paper waste and office supplies. Check. Replace incandescent light bulbs with longer lasting compact fluorescent bulbs. Check. Unplug energy-draining equipment at the end of the day. Double check. Provide free doughnuts and lattes on Friday. OK, I made that one up, but it couldn't hurt.
Now's the time to dream big. Kick that wobbly swivel chair to the curb (and by that I mean, the recycling bin). Brush on a snazzy new color with zero-VOC paint. Switch to bamboo flash drives and upgrade to Greenguard Certified cubicles that don't release toxic emissions...so that was the problem with accounting!
Entrepreneur.com will select the three top submissions, awarding the grand-prize winner with a $10,000 green office makeover (through a Staples gift pack) and a spotlight in an online feature themed "How to Take Your Business Green" in August. The second-place winner will receive a $2,000 Staples gift pack and the third-place winner will receive a $1,000 Staples gift pack.
"This initiative with Entrepreneur.com is a great opportunity for Staples to provide the winners with the products and tools they need to make a difference and have a positive impact on the environment," said David D'Angelo, senior vice president of Staples Brands Group.
