To celebrate 20 years of cooking, renown chef Emeril Lagasse is giving away electronic copies of recipes from his three New Orleans restaurants. The cookbook includes 11 recipes, from BBQ shrimp with rosemary biscuits to Miss Hay's Stuffed Chicken Wings and a Delmonico Martini. (Stomach grumbles.) Is it lunch time? The free electronic cookbook is 32 pages (6 MB) so give it a few minutes to download if you have a high-speed connection and even longer if you use dial up. I've never tried Emeril's recipes or eaten at his restaurants. Is he any good? He must be, given his popularity.

Amazon is sharing the first episode of Planet Earth for free in HD. I have seen this episode, called Pole to Pole, and it is amazing. Sigourney Weaver narrates and the footage of sharks, seals, and polar bears is absolutely amazing. I was also impressed with the Deep Ocean episode but not the Mountains episode, which felt rushed. It is unclear how long this freebie will be around so watch it now.
