We have looked at the Billeo Offer Assistant before, when it added Bing Cashback to Google and other search engines, and think that this new addition will make it much easier for older users to find additional savings on categories they spend the most on, such as travel. To make the offer sweeter, AARP members can double dip on savings by combining their AARP discount with compatible credit or debit card rewards programs to save even more on each transaction.
Since the launch of Billeo Offer Assistant in late 2009 the average user has saved 8% on each transaction. This savings rate has led Billeo to estimate a that AARP members could save a combined $2 billion annually if each of the 40 million AARP members used the service to purchase $500 worth of merchandise or services that they were already planning on buying; such as travel.
"It's our belief that you should have easy access to as many online discounts and deals as possible available through your loyalty programs," said Murali Subbarao, founder and CEO of Billeo in a press release for AARP savings. "With more than a third of our users over 50 and therefore eligible for AARP membership, it was a no-brainer for us to add AARP to the stable of programs we support."
To start taking advantage of AARP savings users only need to install the Billeo Offer Assistant and register for a free account. The Billeo Offer Assistant works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and is compatible with FireFox and Internet Explorer as well as FireFox on Mac OSX.
Once Billeo is installed you'll start seeing savings indicators next to search results like the screenshot above. In addition to offering savings Billeo also offers three tools that seniors will find useful for securely shopping.
- The Password Assistant to autofill login information at shopping sites
- The Shopping Assistant to autofill checkout forms with address, billing and payment details
- A receipt saver that stores every payment confirmation in one place
